Book Review - Twelve Red Herrings

Twelve Red Herrings by Jeffrey Archer My rating: 3 of 5 stars I bought this one a couple of years ago, when the author was in town. I quite enjoyed this book, but expected more of a connection between all the tales than was present. Only one character is repeated in two stories, all the others are disparate. The central conceit for all of them is the 'red herring' and some of the stories are more obvious than others in their deception and cleverness. "Trial and Error" Undoubtedly the best of the lot; it's a pity it was placed in the beginning of the book, as it heightens expectations exponentially. The entire premise is drastic, yet never veers towards the ridiculous. The story engages all the feelings of hope, love, betrayal and anger. It's like a condensed version of a Hollywood film, which worked for me. It's written at a measured pace, except for the ending. It's been months since I first saw ' Snowpiercer ', and at least a couple of months since I watched it for the second time. And as much as I've tried, it has been nagging me throughout, trying to wind its way onto my blog. Well, as the Borg say, resistance is futile. Hence, I concede. Director Joon-ho Bong brings to the screen the critically acclaimed French graphic novel 'Le Transperceneige'. 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' is a Fan's Dream Come True

Ensign Lestat's Film Log, 31/05/14 Where do you start when you've heard so much, and you expect so little? X-Men: First Class was such a disaster, despite the fact that it put James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender on the stardom map. So, I expected less than nothing for X-Men: Days of Future Past . DOFP is high on my list of enjoyable storylines, more so than the Phoenix Saga, probably because I'm a female comic book fan, so the gaze can be very jarring for me. And considering First Class was terribly focused on pleasing only one half of the audience, I was expecting the worst from DOFP. Anyone who's been following the cinematic adaptations can guess that there would have to be a deviation from the original comic book storyline. But, enough conjecture, down to the real thing.
